Why should I take a Texas Driver Safety Course / Defensive Driving?

Our Texas Defensive Driving course helps drivers in a number of ways including:

  • Ticket dismissal: Keep the points off your driving record which in turn keeps your insurance rates from going up.
  • Insurance Reduction: Most insurance companies allow you to reduce your auto insurance by up to 10% upon successful completion of our Texas Defensive Driving / Drivers Safety course
  • Or it can do both.
  • And as a valuable side note, our online Texas driver safety course is a great way to learn defensive driving skills that help you become a safer and more responsible driver.

Please check with your court for further details.

How do I start the course?

To start the course, simply click on the “Register here” link on any page of 247TexasDriverSafety.com and you will be guided through the registration process in minutes. Please have your driver license, your traffic ticket (citation) and the registration information for the vehicle you drive most often.

During the registration process you will create a user name and password to log into the course. Our program will automatically email you confirmation of your registration, which includes this username and password, but we suggest you make note of this information just in case.

After I register, how quickly can I start the course?

You can start immediately.  Once you begin, you can log on and off as often as you like- the program will save your progress automatically.

Do I have to do it all in one day?

Not unless you want to. One of the key benefits of our online defensive driving course is the flexibility you’ll have in fitting the course into your schedule. Our course is designed so you can start and stop as often as you like and study only when you have the time. You can even do one lesson at a time if you prefer. And since it’s 100% online, the course is always available 24/7.

Is this Texas defensive driving course for ticket dismissal only?

No. Most people take defensive driving for ticket dismissal, but it can be taken for a reduction on your auto insurance too. Most Texas insurance companies will give you up to a 10% reduction on your insurance which is good for 3 years.

Is this Texas defensive driving course approved for my court?

Yes. Our course is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and therefore acceptable in all Texas Courts. Our Texas driver safety course provider number is 156 and we are listed on the driver safety / defensive driving course provider list on the TDLR web site. If there is any question that your court may or may not approve your participation in a TDLR approved defensive driving course, we advise you to check with your court to verify your eligibility prior to signing up for our course.

If my defensive driving course due date is tomorrow can I still take this course?

Yes, but please be aware that the course will take you at least 6 hours to complete and the certificate MUST be mailed (or emailed) to you for your signature. For an additional fee, our staff can process your certificate the same day you graduate (you must finish before the FedEx cutoff of 2pm) and send your certificate via FedEx overnight mail or by e-mail.

Can I get an extension to complete the course?

Our company cannot grant an extension on your court date. You will need to contact your court of jurisdiction (the court on your citation) and request an extension. Courts generally grant extensions when they are requested before the due date. If you wait until after the due date there’s a good chance the extension won’t be granted

ID Verification

Why do I need to be verified?

The State of Texas requires that each student’s identification be validated by a third party in order to participate in our program. This validation process is easy and automatically done during your registration.

What do I need to do to be verified?

Verification is done using information from your driver license, license plate and vehicle registration. If our third party database cannot validate your identity, you will need to submit a notarized student affidavit. You can either print out the affidavit from the student control panel or by clicking here.

What if some of the information from my verification is wrong?

In some cases, the third party database will return only partial or incorrect information. Because of this, an affidavit will need to be received by our office before a driving safety course certificate of completion can be issued. You may print out a blank affidavit by clicking here.

What is a student affidavit?

If your identification cannot be successfully verified by our registration process, you will need to submit a notarized affidavit for us in order to satisfy the State of Texas requirement for ID validation. The affidavit needs to be received by our office before a driving safety course certificate of completion can be issued. You may print out a blank affidavit by clicking here. Many students find notary and fax services at their local bank or even online.
