Why should I take a Texas Driver Safety Course / Defensive Driving?
Our Texas Defensive Driving course helps drivers in several ways, including:
Ticket dismissal: Keep the points off your driving record, which in turn helps prevent your insurance rates from going up. (Please check with your court for further details regarding their specific ticket dismissal process.)
Insurance reduction: Most insurance companies allow you to reduce your auto insurance by up to 10% upon successful completion of our Texas Defensive Driving / Driver Safety course (good for up to 3 years).
OR, take it for both reasons!
There is also another benefit to taking the course: our online Texas driver safety course is a great way to learn defensive driving skills that helps you become a safer and more responsible driver.
Plus, it’ll help keep you up to date with the ever-changing laws and rules of the road.
To start the course, simply click on the “Register here” link on any page of 247TexasDriverSafety.com and you will be guided through the registration process in minutes. Please have your driver license, your traffic ticket (citation) and the registration information for the vehicle you drive most often.
During registration, you will create a username and password to log in and out of your account on your schedule. You will be sent a confirmation email with this information, but we suggest you make note of your username and password as well, just in case.
After I register, how quickly can I start the course?
You can start immediately. You may log on and off as often as you like — your progress is saved automatically (even if you accidentally close the page or your internet connection goes out).
Do I have to do it all in one day?
Not unless you want to. One of the key benefits of our online defensive driving course is the flexibility you’ll have in fitting the course into your schedule. Our course is designed so you can start and stop as often as you like and study only when you have the time. You can even do one lesson at a time if you prefer. And since it’s 100% online, the course is always available 24/7.
Is this Texas defensive driving course for ticket dismissal only?
No. Most people take defensive driving for ticket dismissal, but it can also be taken for an auto insurance reduction (up to 10% for 3 years).
It also helps you learn defensive driving skills that make you a safer and more responsible driver.
Plus, it will help keep you up to date with the ever-changing laws and rules of the road.
Is this Texas defensive driving course approved for my court?
Yes. Our course is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and therefore acceptable in all Texas Courts. Our Texas driver safety course provider number is 156 and we are listed on the driver safety / defensive driving course provider list on the TDLR web site.
If there is any question that your court may or may not approve your participation in a TDLR approved defensive driving course, we advise you to check with your court to verify your eligibility prior to signing up for our course.
If my defensive driving course due date is tomorrow can I still take this course?
Yes, but please be aware that the course will take you at least 6 hours to complete and the certificate MUST be mailed (or emailed) to you for your signature.
For an additional fee, our staff can process your certificate the same day you graduate (you must finish before the FedEx cutoff of 2pm) and send your certificate via FedEx overnight mail or by e-mail.
Can I get an extension to complete the course?
Our company cannot grant an extension on your court date. You will need to contact your court of jurisdiction (the court on your citation) and request an extension. Courts generally grant extensions when they are requested before the due date. If you wait until after the due date there’s a good chance the extension won’t be granted
What if I’ve already enrolled in the program and need to log back on?
If you have enrolled already, you should have your username and password. Just enter them by visiting the “Course Login” link at the top right hand side of any page on our Site whenever you need to return to the program. If you forgot or lost your username or password, there is a password recovery link on the login page, or feel free to call us at (888) 718-3927.
Can I use someone else’s computer or Internet access?
All you need in order to participate is a computer, tablet or smartphone with internet access. Any device that is hooked up to the web will allow you to work on our course, whether it is at home, work, or the library. You can even participate using different devices at various times if needed.
How long will it take to complete this defensive driving course (driver safety course)?
It’s really up to you. Generally, it should take you no longer to finish our course than it would if you took a traditional in-class Texas defensive driving program, which is 360 minutes. You may work at your own pace and log on and off at anytime.

ID Verification
The State of Texas requires that each student’s identification be validated by a third party in order to participate in our program. This validation process is easy and is completed automatically during registration.
Verification is done using information from your driver’s license, license plate, and vehicle registration. If our third-party database cannot validate your identity, you will need to submit a notarized student affidavit. You may print the affidavit from the student control panel.
What do I need to do to be verified?

You can either print out the affidavit from the student control panel or by clicking here.
What if some of the information from my verification is wrong?
In some cases, the third party database will return only partial or incorrect information. Because of this, an affidavit will need to be received by our office before a driving safety course certificate of completion can be issued. You may print out a blank affidavit by clicking here.
